Gyeonggi Province announced on the 12th that it will be the first local government in the country to conduct an ‘immigrant social integration survey’ to understand the current status of immigrants living in the province and establish a customized social integration policy. As of last year, the number of foreign residents in Gyeonggi Province was 809,801, the largest in the country, but immigrant social integration policies are implemented differently by region and sector, so there is a need to establish effective policies. Accordingly, Gyeonggi Province plans to comprehensively investigate the living conditions, employment, education, and social participation of immigrants through this survey and establish a Gyeonggi-style social integration policy.

The survey targets more than 500 foreign residents in each Gyeonggi-do region and includes various areas such as level of social integration difficulties faced by immigrants in living in Korea policy awareness and service use experience necessary support policies.

In particular, we plan to intensively analyze key items such as communication, safety, labor, education, housing, health and welfare, and social contribution and use them as basic policy data, and share the results of the survey with 31 cities and counties to contribute to the development of Gyeonggi Province's social integration policy.

Gyeonggi Province plans to develop a survey form this month, complete the actual situation survey and policy development by the second half of this year, and establish a sustainable social integration model through cooperation with related organizations and experts. Since Kim Won-gyu, the director of the Immigration and Social Affairs Bureau, took office, Gyeonggi Province has been making various efforts to practically support the human rights, social adaptation, and settlement of foreign residents.

Regarding this survey, Lee Moon-hwan, head of the Gyeonggi Province Immigration and Social Support Division, said, “We will secure objective and quantitative data to strengthen customized support policies for immigrants and create an environment for harmonious coexistence between immigrants and local communities.”
