PHL rice imports may hit 4.8 MMT                    The PHILIPPINES' rice imports this year could reach 4.8 million metric tons (MMT), potentially matching or exceeding the elevated level recorded in 2024, as rising input costs and a looming El Nino threaten domestic output, the Department of Agriculture (DA) said.

"Because of the pressure, it's possible that we will import 4.8 million metric tons this year, or more." Agriculture Assistant Secretary Arnel V. de Mesa told reporters on Tuesday.

342 Filipinos arrive on 8th repatriation flight                                                                                         MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine government yesterday facilitated the arrival of 342 Filipinos from Abu Dhabi, United Emirates, marking the eighth chartered repatriation flight for returning nationals.

Of the total number, 203 are overseas Filipino workers, accompanied by 119 dependents and relatives, while 20 are other Filipino nationals.

200,000 jobs ready for OFWs displaced by Mideast crisis                                                                  MANILA, Philippines - Around 200,000 job opportunities abroad for returning overseas Filipino workers are being prepared by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), as the total number of repatriated OFWs from the Middle East exceeded 4,000.

Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said the government is ready to assist repatriated OFWs by matching them with available employment opportunities, based on their skills and work experience.
