Gyeongju-si,
Gyeongsangbuk-do, announced that it will provide a monthly childcare fee of
100,000 won to foreign children attending 134 daycare centers in the area
starting in January.
According to the current
Infant and Toddler Childcare Act, free childcare supports families with Korean
nationality, but does not support foreign families without Korean citizenship.
The cost of childcare
for foreign families who do not receive support is between 326,000 won and
499,000 won per month, depending on age, which is a significant economic
burden.
Accordingly, Gyeongju
City decided to subsidize childcare fees for foreign children attending daycare
centers in order to reduce the economic burden of raising children of local
foreign families and to support stable settlement in the local community.
Gyeongju Mayor Nak-young
Joo said, “We hope that the childcare support will help the children grow up as
healthy members of the community by easing the economic burden on foreign
families.”
Meanwhile, Gyeongju City
will strengthen welfare tailored to children this year so that they can grow
into healthy members of society.
The childbirth subsidy
is paid at 120,000 won per month for the first, 200,000 won per month for the
second for 25 months, and 500,000 won per month for the third and above for 36
months. 200,000 won for birth congratulations and 2 million won for ‘first
meeting pass’ will be paid to all babies.
To support postpartum recovery and newborn care for mothers, maternal and newborn health care services are provided free of charge for up to 15 days per child.
