The Seoul-si’s ‘Transportation Expense Support for Pregnant Women’ project will be forward to support multicultural families and foreign pregnant women.
The Seoul-si started providing transportation expenses of 700,000 won per pregnant women living in Seoul from July 1 of this year in order to increase the convenience of transportation for pregnant women who are disadvantaged in transportation and to ease the financial burden on families with childbirth.
However, it caused controversy by excluding pregnant women of multicultural families. Papaya Story also spoke to the city manager about this issue and raised the issue.
Finally, on August 8th, the Member of Parliament for Seoul City Council, Aisuru proposed an amendment to the ‘Seoul-si law on Childbirth and Childrearing Support, which would support transportation expenses even for foreign pregnant women who do not have resident registration.
As the Seoul Metropolitan Government agrees to the amendment, it is expected to be passed in September. If the amendment is passed and have applied on July 1st you will receive retroactively up to the amount you can receive.
Various uses, useful business
The transportation expenses for pregnant women paid by the city of Seoul includes fuel costs in the range of use. This is the first case in Korea.
The voucher points received can be used for public transportation and fuel costs, and when paying by card in transportation-related industries, the points are automatically deducted, making it easy to use.
Eligibility to apply transportation expenses for pregnant women are who have had resident registration in Seoul for more than 6 months as of the application date, and can apply after 3 months of pregnancy to 3 months after giving birth.
The subsidy is paid to the credit card in the name of the pregnant woman. As of the application date, you must have a card in your own name from Shinhan, Samsung, KB Kookmin, Woori, Hana, and BC card companies, and you can also apply for the ‘National Haengbog Card’ to the relevant card company.
