The number of foreign residents in Korea has already
exceeded 2.2 million in 2019 and is continuously increasing.
The number of foreign residents in Daejeon is about
34,000. Looking at the status of Dong-gu, Jung-gu, Seo-gu, Daedeok-gu, and
Yuseong-gu, as of 2019, there were 7,009 (27.9%) foreign students, 3,457
marriage immigrants (13.7%), and foreigners. 2,879 workers (11.4%), etc. It is
characterized by a high proportion of international students.
Among them, Yuseong-gu is an intensive residential
area for foreign residents with more than 10,000 foreign residents or 5% or
more of the total population, followed by Dong-gu with the highest proportion.
Daejeon Metropolitan City’s Integrated Support Center
for Foreign Residents, which opened on February 18, was established by the
Daejeon City Foreign Resident Support Ordinance and is consigned and operated
by the Daejeon Metropolitan City Social Service Center. It is operated in
connection with the Hana Bank Culture Bank project.
Daejeon Metropolitan City Foreign Residents Integrated
Support Center is carrying out foreign resident’s support projects,
international exchanges and cooperation projects to help foreign residents
settle down early, adapt to life, and establish a residential environment in
the region.
In order to realize communication and coexistence of
foreign residents with the local community, the interpretation and translation
counseling center based on interpretation and translation counseling for
foreign residents such as living, labor, and law, operation and support of the
community for activating the network of foreign residents, Korean culture
experience, Daejeon area It is hosting the World Citizens Harmony Hanmadang, a
foreign student athletics competition, where all foreigners and residents of

international city, the operation and support of international exchanges
between schools, support for international exchange by private organizations,
establishment of a sister-friendly cooperation city network in Daejeon, and
preparation of a public diplomacy environment for strengthening the diplomatic
capacity of youth and citizens.
Director Kim Yun-hee said, “We are working to build a
user-centered information and network platform based on local characteristics
so that foreigners living in Daejeon can become local residents. We will do our
best to create a virtuous cycle for early settlement and establishment of a
settlement environment through support and international cooperation,” she
said.
