Ulsan City will open the ‘Age of 100 Billion Won in Youth Budget’ in 2022 and significantly strengthen youth support projects by field.

As uncertainty and polarization about the future intensify due to COVID-19 and changes in the labor market due to technological development, the living conditions of young people are worsening.

The city of Ulsan recognizes the youth problem as a task of the times that cannot be postponed, and plans to implement customized youth policies, such as job creation and housing stability, to prevent tally of Ulsan and to be reborn as a “vigorous youth city.”

Mayor Song Cheol-ho held a press conference at the City Hall Press Center at 11 am on November 10 and announced measures to strengthen youth support.

First, the city of Ulsan provides a youth allowance of 500,000 won per person per year to 14,000 young people aged 24 years in Ulsan who will become first-timers after graduating from university, and discovers and support young people who have lost their will to participate in society and are living a hermit life via counseling and vocational training. In addition, support for accident insurance premiums will be newly established so that young people who have served in the military can focus on their military life with peace of mind.

In addition, if local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) hire local young people as regular workers, 10% additional special incentives are provided to encourage youth recruitment.

Special support for monthly rent for youth’, ‘support for housing expenses for young households’, and ‘support for transportation expenses for young workers of small and medium-sized enterprises’ will also be implemented.

A maximum of 200,000 won per month is provided for rent for two years from 2022 to 2023 by setting income standards for youths without a home. Last month, the city of Ulsan announced a plan to support 150,000 won, including 100,000 won in monthly rent and 50,000 won in interest on the rental deposit, per household of unmarried young people aged 19 to 39. For young people attending small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), a monthly transportation fee of 50,000 won is provided.

Mayor Song Cheol-ho emphasized, “There is no future for Ulsan without the establishment of a social safety net for young people who are the leaders of the future. We hope that with the opening of the youth budget of 100 billion won, young people in the region will regain hope and brighten the future of Ulsan."
