The Chungcheongnam-do Provincial Council, which is making efforts to support childcare fees for foreign children, has released a welfare policy for foreign youth once again.
The Chungnam Provincial Council is making efforts to realize universal transportation welfare by including children of foreign families in the target of public transportation support.
At the 337th regular meeting of the Safety Construction and Firefighting Committee held on June 9, the Chungnam Provincial Assembly passed the amendment to the “Ordinance on Support for the Use of Public Transportation such as the Elderly in Chungcheongnam-do” proposed by Representative Ahn Jang-heon.
As part of the transportation welfare policy, Chungcheongnam-do is currently supporting bus fares with the “Chungnam-type thrifty transportation card” for children and youth between the ages of 6 and 18, the elderly over 75, the disabled, and persons of distinguished services for the State as part of the transportation welfare policy.
However, children and youth of foreign families living legally did not receive these benefits, but with the passage of this amendment, they are now able to receive support.
This amendment has expanded the scope of transportation welfare benefits to people who have registered as foreigners living in the province, marriage immigrants, and recognized refugees.
Assemblyman Ahn Jang-heon said, “Even though they receive the same course in one classroom, they are being discriminated against among students due to blind spots in welfare policies. The ordinance is being revised so that the children of foreign families living legally do not experience unnecessary discrimination in the process of growing up.”
He further emphasized, “Through this revision, we hope that the blind spots in welfare will be resolved and that Chungnam will become a warm and safe Chungnam.”
This amendment will be finalized if it is passed at the plenary session of the Chungcheongnam-do Council to be held on June 22.
