Starting in May, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family will implement a pilot project to support educational activity expenses for children aged 7 to 18 from low-income multicultural families.

This pilot project was designed to ensure diverse educational opportunities for children from low-income multicultural families who have difficulty adapting to school or learning to develop academic and career capabilities.

Eligible for support are children aged 7 to 18 (born between January 1, 2006 and December 31, 2017) from multicultural families whose income is 100% or less of the standard median income.

The median income in 2024 is 3,682,609 won for a two-person household, 4,714,657 won for a three-person household, 5,729,913 won for a four-person household, and 6,695,735 won for a five-person household. Each household can receive support if their income is lower than the above amount.

However, even if you meet the above criteria, you cannot receive educational activity expenses if you are already receiving educational benefits.

Children of multicultural families who do not attend school are also eligible for support, and support is provided according to age.

The support amount is 400,000 won per year for elementary school students, 500,000 won per year for middle school students, and 600,000 won per year for high school students.

The educational activity fee can be used for educational activities such as purchasing textbooks and use of the reading room, purchasing materials for arts and physical education and vocational training, and supporting certification.

Starting May 1, multicultural families wishing to apply can apply at the family center or multicultural family support center in their child's address by bringing their ID card and required documents.

Educational activity expenses are paid in a lump sum as points to the NH Nonghyup Card (Chaeum) in the 1st (July), 2nd (September), and 3rd (October) depending on the application period.

Vice Minister of Gender Equality and Family Shin Young-sook said, "We will continue to strengthen support for children from multicultural families to reduce the educational gap with their peers and help them grow into future talents." “We ask for your interest so that you can apply for and receive support for this educational activity cost support project without fail,”
