Seasonal work system briefing session for marriage immigrant family invitation 'Minimization of dropouts'

Gochang-gun, Jeollabuk-do, held the first ‘seasonal work system briefing session’ in the country for multicultural families, including married immigrants in the region.

This briefing session is meaningful as it explains the details of the seasonal work system in reality, as most multicultural families living in Korea want to invite their families.

Gochang-gun currently uses two methods of supplying the seasonal work system: bringing workers from overseas contracted cities into Korea and inviting married immigrants' families from their home countries.

However, there is a high probability of dropouts in the middle of working with the entry method of workers from overseas agreement cities.

In June, 47 foreign workers from Machapuchare, Nepal, who signed an MOU with Gochang-gun, entered the country, but a significant number of them were reported to have dropped out.

For this reason, the method of inviting marriage immigrant families which has a low dropout rate is emerging as an alternative.

At a briefing held at the Gochang-gun Family Center on August 31st, Gochang-gun identified the needs of multicultural families who wanted to invite family members from their home countries, ▲ explained the foreign seasonal worker program, ▲ gave information on the procedure for marriage immigrants to invite their family members from their home country, and ▲held a question and answer session.

Gochang-gun plans to gradually expand the method of inviting marriage immigrants' families and relatives to reduce damage to employed farmers and operate stable seasonal work.

Particularly, next year, they are considering a plan to accept family invitations from marriage immigrants living outside the city.

In addition, Gochang-gun is continuously requesting the Ministry of Justice to improve the system, such as adjusting the allocation period and extending the working period, to prevent foreign workers from leaving and to supply and receive workers in a timely manner during the farming season.

“We hope that many families and relatives of married immigrants will be invited to help alleviate the rural manpower shortage in the region. The state will do its best to provide administrative support so that the workers who enter the country can work diligently.” said Jo Woo-sam, head of the agricultural policy department at the Gochang-gun Office. .
