The
Busan Metropolitan Office of Education will support the education of
multicultural students with a budget of 2.592.46 million won this year.
The
Busan Metropolitan Office of Education plans to expand 1 Korean language class
in middle schools to provide customized education for multicultural students,
operating a total of 17 classes in 16 schools, and support the development of
visiting Korean language classes and Korean language education programs.
In
addition, mentoring tailored to multicultural students is supported, such as
mentoring for college students to support the improvement of basic academic
abilities and mentoring for multiculturalism to strengthen career/admission
capabilities.
To
promote mutual cultural education, multicultural education in connection with
the curriculum will be implemented, and multicultural student and parent clubs
will be operated, and multicultural education competency strengthening training
for teachers will be continuously promoted.
In
particular, this year, to support the harmony of multicultural students, an
orchestra and Korean traditional music troupe will be newly operated at four
elementary schools.
In
order to operate the Busan Multicultural Education Support Center program, it
also operates a transfer counseling service for immigrant students, Dabom
interpretation and translation service, a world language class, and a bilingual
speaking contest.
Meanwhile,
Busan Superintendent of Education Kim Seok-jun held a ‘sympathy and
communication meeting’ with parents of multicultural families at the Busan
Multicultural Education Support Center on February 11th.
The
meeting was attended by Superintendent of Education Kim Seok-joon and other
officials, parents of multicultural families, multicultural education support
group, and teachers in charge of Korean language classes.
Superintendent
Kim Seok-jun listened to parents' honest opinions on ways to support education
for multicultural students, and talked candidly about ways to provide
customized support for multicultural students and increase the multicultural
acceptance of school members.

Kim Seok-jun said, "We will create a school culture that considers and
respects each other along with multi-faceted support for the education and
holistic growth of multicultural students. Through this, we will help
multicultural students grow into healthy members of our society, he said.
