Q. I would like to receive help with education and counseling to adapt to life in Korea!

A. Family centers (Multicultural Family Support Centers) across the country provide family education, counseling, and language programs for multicultural families who have difficulty adjusting to life in Korea. Please contact your local center for more information about services. You can contact the Danuri Call Center (1577-1366) or refer to the information on regional multicultural family support centers on the Danuri Portal (www.liveinkorea.kr).

Q. I want to get support information for multicultural families in one place!

A. There is a place where you can view various information needed for multicultural families and marriage immigrants at a glance. These are the portals <Danuri> and <Papaya Story>. <Danuri www.liveinkorea.kr> provides multicultural trends and information on multicultural family support centers in 13 languages.

<Papaya Story www.papayastory.com> provides various information needed for living in Korea every day in Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, Russian, Thai, and English. In addition to daily life information, we provide a variety of services necessary for the daily lives of immigrants, such as visa consulting community establishment TALK service (SNS) unpaid wage resolution service Q&A.

Q. I want to raise a child who is good at Korean and speaks my mother’s language well!

A. If a child naturally learns and is exposed to his or her mother's language from a young age, he or she will not only feel emotionally close to his or her mother but also grow into a child who is naturally bilingual.

Additionally, by creating an environment where bilingual communication is possible at home, children from multicultural families can establish their identity and grow into global talents. Bilingual family environment creation programs and parent education are being conducted at the family center (multicultural family support center) in your area, so please inquire and use them.

Q. I would like to receive legal advice over the phone. Can I get help?

A. The Multicultural Family Comprehensive Information Telephone Center (Danuri Call Center, 1577-1366) provides telephone legal consultation in conjunction with the Korean Bar Association. We also provide crisis counseling and emergency support, various information on life in Korea, daily life interpretation, and three-way call support services in 13 languages.

Q. Is there any place that provides support for children of immigrant immigrants and multicultural youth?

A. Yes, there is. ‘Rainbow Youth Center’ operates a variety of programs in cooperation with local organizations for youth with immigrant backgrounds aged 9 to 24. We provide information on residence, settlement, education, employment/career, and life in general, and also conduct counseling and psychological healing projects. 02-733-7587

Q. I want to get employment-related information!

A. To ensure stable settlement and adaptation to life in Korea, the ‘Women’s New Work Center’ (1544-1199) provides internships and vocational education and training to married immigrant women. In addition, the Employment Success Package of the Ministry of Employment and Labor (1350, www.work.go.kr) provides various employment-related information for marriage immigrants to help them successfully find employment. More details can be obtained from the portals Danuri (www.liveinkorea.kr) and Papaya Story (www.papayastory.com).

Q. What services are available for pregnant women?

A. All pregnant women (including marriage immigrants) can receive free health care at public health centers when they become pregnant. You can receive free prenatal testing by simply registering at the public health center.

Additionally, iron and folic acid supplements are provided periodically after pregnancy. If you go to the public health center in your area, you can check the services and pregnancy education programs available.

Q. I want to know about the health insurance system!

A. Korea has a health insurance system in which people pay a certain amount of insurance premiums every month depending on their income and assets. If you sign up for health insurance, you can use medical facilities at a low cost when you are sick or give birth. You can also receive regular health checkups. Detailed information on health insurance premiums, eligibility requirements, benefits, etc. can be obtained through the National Health Insurance Corporation (1577-1000) or the foreign language (English, Chinese, Vietnamese) helpline (033-811-2000).
