Jeju International Education Center
(Director Ho-Jun Kang) The Jeju Multicultural Education Center held the ‘2021
Multicultural Student Emotional Support Teacher Competency Reinforcement
Training’ for 13 elementary and secondary school teachers for two days on
October 23rd and October 30th.
This training was prepared to provide
emotional support through strengthening the professionalism of teachers so that
multicultural students do not experience difficulties in adjusting to school as
the number of multicultural students increases in the school field.
The training consisted of a total of 15
sessions, including ▲Meeting with multicultural students ▲Difficulties and
solutions when guiding multicultural students ▲Class harmony program ▲Care for
and communicate with multicultural students’ emotions ▲Multicultural student
emotional support program.
On the first day, they talked about
difficulties while guiding multicultural students and thought together about
which program to apply to solve it, and applied it in the classroom for a week.
On the second day, the teacher's
professionalism for emotional support in the class unit was strengthened by
directly experiencing programs such as how to get along through play therapy.
According to the Jeju Provincial Office of
Education, the number of multicultural students in the province over the past
three years (2019-2021) has been increasing to 2,079, 2259, and 2616.
The ratio of multicultural students to the
total number of students was 2.61%, 2.87%, and 3.3%, respectively, exceeding 3%
this year.
The multicultural education currently conducted by the Jeju Provincial Office of Education is centered on the Jeju Multicultural Education Center, the Jeju International Education Center.
