Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City has decided to strengthen the interpretation service for complaints to resolve the inconvenience of foreigners as the number of complaints filed by foreigners, such as change of place of stay, has increased significantly.
According to the Nam-gu Office, the number of complaints related to foreigners, such as change of residence, was counted at 842 in the general civil affairs office of the ward office last year.
For the purpose of filing a civil complaint, the number of cases of alien registration was the largest with 449 cases, and the number of cases of change of residence and the report of foreign nationals' residence reached 250 cases and 143 cases, respectively.
Compared to the 600 complaints filed by foreigners in 2020, the number of complaints related to foreigners is increasing by 242.
As the number of complaints related to foreigners is expected to increase in Nam-gu this year, additional interpreting officials will be discovered and cooperation with the Nam-gu Healthy Families and Multicultural Families Support Center will be strengthened for other foreign language services.
First of all, in line with the continuous increase in the number of multicultural families and foreigners, it was decided to expand the field of interpretation service for foreign residents, which was selected as an excellent case of government innovation last year.
Currently, Nam-gu selects and operates four interpreting officials who are fluent in Chinese and English and this year, it plans to maximize foreign civil service administration services by discovering Japanese interpreter officials.
In addition, in cooperation with the Nam-gu Healthy Families and Multicultural Families Support Center, it will support language services in many countries such as Chinese, Vietnamese, Russian, etc.
Meanwhile, as of the end of 2021, there were 1,457 foreigners residing in the city, and by gender, there were 578 men and 879 women.
