The city of Busan and the Busan Foundation for International Relations announced that they would be recruiting Life in Busan Interpreter Support Group to support the interpretation service of Life in Busan, an essential mobile app for foreign residents living in Busan, by March 6th.

The ‘Life in Busan Interpreter Support Group’ is open to all Busan citizens who are fluent in foreign languages ​​and foreign residents living in Busan who are fluent in Korean, and a total of 200 people will be selected.

The selection languages ​​are English, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Russian, Uzbekistan, Mongolian, Burmese, Cambodian, Thai, Filipino, and a total of 12 languages.

The selected interpreter support team will use their smartphone to provide phone interpretation and chat consultations that come in through the ‘Life in Busan Mobile App’ in their daily life, and will help foreign residents who are in the blind spot of language.

The interpretation service is operated from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and the interpreter support team can provide the service for any time desired.

The interpreter support group is given a certain mobile gift certificate according to the number of activities, and is given various benefits such as free training, volunteer service and activity confirmation, and international event interpretation opportunities.

Applications for participation can be made online through the notice on the Nurijip website of the Busan Foundation for International Affairs until March 6th. After that, the final selection result will be announced on March 24 after a three-day video screening from March 16 to March 18. The selected interpreter support group will have a launching ceremony on March 31, and will begin full-scale activities from April.

Jeon Hye-sook, director of the Gender Equality and Family Bureau, said, “I hope that the language barriers of about 73,000 foreign residents living in Busan will be partially resolved through the ‘Life in Busan interpretation service’.”
