Nepalese worker A fell while evacuating through a window after a fire broke out in his dormitory three years ago. He/she suffered greatly because of this, including multiple fractures and multiple surgeries over three years.

However, he/she did not speak Korean well, so he/she had great difficulties in immigration, medical care, and life in general. At this time, it was the Chungnam Foreign Resident Integration Support Call Center that helped A. The center extended a helping hand to A in all areas of his/her life in Korea, such as medical interpretation, extension of the period of stay, and compensation for disasters, which he needed during the treatment process. Because of this, A was able to complete all of his/her treatment and compensation and return home safely. 

On May 16th, the 5th anniversary of the Chungnam Foreign Resident Integration Support Call Center (Central Director Yun Yeon-han) was celebrated. Established in Chungcheongnam-do, this center is working to help foreign residents live in a stable life in Korea, including language communication problems, various difficulties in life, labor, immigration and residence, and medical interpretation.

Since the opening in 2017, as the number of consultation requests from foreign residents has increased every year, in 2019, the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Employment and Labor collaborated to open the integrated Cheonan City Cultural Migrants Plus Center. 

The Multicultural Immigrant Plus Center has improved the satisfaction of foreign residents by providing one-stop services such as immigration administration, employment permit system, and counseling for various difficulties. This made a difference comparing to other centers.

In 2020, as the demand for interpreter consultations increased due to Corona, night and weekend consultations began. Accordingly, by actively responding to inquiries related to Corona such as interpretation of medical institutions, vaccinations, quarantine and living support information, it was awarded the National Excellence Award in the Best Cases of Foreigner Support hosted by the Ministry of Public Administration and Security in 2020.

The Chungnam Foreign Resident Integration Support Call Center has conducted a total of 284,375 consultations since its opening until last April.

Currently, the service is available in 16 languages (Korean, English, Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian, East Timor, Cambodian, Russian, Mongolian, Nepali, Burmese, Uzbek, Filipino, Japanese, and Kyrgyz).

Yoon Yeon-han, head of the center, said, "I am grateful to all of the call center employees who have achieved tremendous counseling results over the past 5 years, experiencing Corona together with foreign residents and working 365 days a year without a break get to us to this day."
