Gwangju Metropolitan City will hold the
Gwangju World Kimchi Festival online this year from October 29th to November
14th.
The Gwangju World Kimchi Festival, which
marks its 28th anniversary this year, has been hosted on the Gwangju World
Kimchi Festival website (www.kimchi.gwangju.go.kr) and YouTube 'Gwangju Kimchi
Festival TV' under the theme of 'Kimchi of a Millennium, Connecting Gwangju and
the World'. In addition to online events through online events, offline events
such as a kimchi contest are also held.
First, in order to promote Gwangju Kimchi,
starting from the 6th, they connect 11 cities in 5 countries including China,
Japan, France, Guam and New Zealand, including sister cities of Gwangju City
such as San Antonio, USA, through ZOOM to make kimchi making experience. They
will host the Global K-Kimchi Academy, a program that conducted kimchi making
experiences.
In addition, they have prepared a program
to make kimchi at home by receiving a kimchi meal kit with advance reservation.
'Gwangju Kimchi Master Cooking Class' and 'Paldo Kimchi Academy' where you can
meet kimchi from all over the country at once.
At the same time, 'Kimchi Song Dance
Challenge', where they watch and participate in kimchi song and dance guide
videos on YouTube, and online supporters who will promote Gwangju kimchi on
social media during the festival have also completed reservations in advance.
In commemoration of the Kimchi Day on
November 22, 1122 children will experience making kimchi with a pre-booked
kimchi meal kit.
An ‘online kimchi market’ will also be
held. You can purchase Gwangju kimchi from 10 local kimchi companies that use
100% domestic ingredients and have received HACCP and traditional food
certifications, as well as premium handmade kimchi made by the President’s
Award winners at the Kimchi Workshop at 30% cheaper than the market price.
This year’s Kimchi Festival is supported
by government funds in connection with the 2021 Korea Sale Festa, which is
being promoted by the government for the purpose of stimulating consumption and
revitalizing the domestic economy, following last year’s.
In addition, as an offline program, starting with the 'Gwangju Kimchi Making Day' event in Gwangju Kimchi Town on the 29th, with the diplomatic mission to Korea and kimchi masters, the 'Korea Kimchi Contest', which is the only national cooking contest to award the President's Award. On the 30th, the 'Kimchi Applied Cooking Contest' for the globalization of kimchi will be held in accordance with the government's quarantine regulations.
